How many of the dozens of promotional emails you receive each day do you actually open and read? What about those newsletters that are constantly inundating you with links back to their website to read more? In an attempt to simplify my daily inbox purge so that I can spend more time engaging with the content I find most inspiring, I took on the unexpectedly tedious task of unsubscribing from any email list that failed to hold my interest. The emails that got to stay had to meet at least one of the following parameters:
- Visually Beautiful Graphics: Typically, promotional emails from a brand that are thoughtfully designed. It's OK that I can't afford to purchase single thing; I'm here for the pretty pictures.
- Smart, Clever Writing: The same as above, but with words.
- Newsletters from my Favorite Websites: Less subscriptions to letters I don't really care about means more time to read the ones I do.
- Stores/Brands I Shop at Regularly: Allowed to stay if I actually pay attention to their updates on sales and promotions. Where possible, I updated my subscription preferences to only receive weekly emails.
With the above list in mind, I'll be sharing some of my favorite email subscriptions that I feel are worth the time and inbox space. It's time to stop falling into the over-subscribed trap of Promo Email FOMO and start curating an inbox of content that makes you feel inspired, not stressed.
First up, a short & sweet daily newsletter: Stella Spoils
Stella Spoils is a daily round-up of inspiration that can be digested in a quick scan. I recently discovered this subscription via the Holy Grail of Junk Email: by entering an online sweepstakes of which Stella Spoils was one of the sponsors. While I removed my name from the other lists I was automatically added to, I kept my address on this image-heavy newsletter's subscription list and even followed their equally pretty Instagram.
The daily dose of inspiration includes a diverse sample of stunning Instagram accounts (Who We're Following), exciting products to buy (What We're Eyeing), cool jams (What We're Listening To), and an eclectic mix of articles from sources around the web (What We're Reading).
I love Stella Spoils because it's a quick way to get inspired while looking at something pretty and a great tool for finding new accounts to follow to keep that inspiration going. You can sign up to start receiving emails here.
